Firearms Training
Critical now offers firearms training, proper handling, and safety courses in New York and Massachusetts. Having the right to carry a firearm comes with huge responsibility. It is your obligation to know the laws and carry in a safe and secure manner.
The Critical’s owner is an NRA licensed Pistol Instructor, and NRA rated Range Safety Officer and a State of Massachusetts licensed Pistol Instructor with years of tactical training and security courses.
Below is the new required NYS safety course required for your CCW is held in New York only.
New York State 16 hr Firearm Safety Training Course
This is a 16-hr course taught by an NRA Certified Instructor and includes all the required materials and instruction needed to apply for your New York State CCW Pistol Permit. This course including live fire will cover the following topics.
General firearm safety:
- Firearm safe storage requirements in NYS
- New York State & Federal guns laws.
- Concealed carry situational awareness of surroundings, including firearm display and concealment.
- Conflict De-escalation tactics that include verbal and non-verbal strategies.
- Adverse effects of alcohol and drugs uses as it pertains to firearm safety.
- Best practices when encountering law enforcement.
- Sensitive places listed in Penal law 265.01-e and the restrictions on firearm possession in restricted place under Penal law 265.01-d.
- Conflict management.
- Use of deadly physical force.
- Suicide prevention including recognizing signs of suicide risk and resources to obtain assistance.
- Basic principles of marksmanship, including stance, grip, sight picture,. sight alignment, breath control and trigger control.
*This course includes a written exam on what you have been taught and you must pass with an 80% proficiency to pass the course.
Live Fire Proficiency and Range safety include:
- Safe drawing, target acquisition, and re-holstering.
- Dry firing.
- Safe loading and unloading of ammunition.
- Performing a firearm condition check, and how to achieve and verify a safe and empty firearm condition.
- Safely discharging the firearm
- Following the completion of the 2 hour live fire training, each student must demonstrate proficiency by successfully completing a live fire assessment.
